Free Battle is one of the game modes available in DNF Duel's Local Mode. It is the primary mode for players to fight each other locally.
Overview
Before setting up a match, players are able to adjust the amount of rounds to win alongside the time limit per round. Up to 5 rounds can be selected to win alongside there being unlimited time to select from if the players chose to do so. As an advanced setting, players can also set handicaps that either restricts each other or give themselve an advantage. This is set between -2 to +2 of an advantage. By default, the settings are up to 2 rounds to win, a 99 time limit, and no handicap enplaced for both players.
After adjusting the settings, players can choose between what side they want to play on (Player 1 for starting the game on the left side and Player 2 for starting the game on the right side). Following this, players can then select any character, awakening state, and stage to duel against each other. The roster primarily consists of the starting characters alongside any paid post-launch character that has been purchased. If Lost Warrior hasn't been unlocked yet from the game's story mode, then he won't be available in Free Battle subsequently.
If the player is fighting against a CPU, they are able to alter the AI's difficulty on a scale of 1 to 100 (50 being the default). After selecting the BGM and stage, then players are then able to fight against each other or against the CPU.
Generally, there isn't any restrictions for how long players are able to play in this mode, so it is possible to do so to their heart's content. After each subsequent match, players do have the option to either retry with the same setup, going back to the character select screen to play with someone else, or go back to the main menu. Additionally, the amount of wins and any potential win streaks are also recorded within each gameplay session.
