The Vanguard is one of the characters in the base game of DNF Duel. Originally teased on December 12, 2021, Vanguard was fully announced on December 14, 2021. He is based on the Vanguard sub-class of the Demonic Lancer in Dungeon Fighter Online.

These men fight at the frontline of battle, more courageous than anyone else. They are enthralled by the power of their Demonic Lances, causing them to set off in search of stronger foes.
Most Demonic Lancers achieve countless victories, then lose just a single battle; thus ending their lives in the Imperial Arena. But there are the rare few that do not follow this precedent, and manage to survive for so long they end up being unable to find any more worthy opponents in the Arena.
The De Los Empire started calling these men their "dogs" while exploiting them in extreme conditions by promising them their freedom at the end of rigorous missions.
Character Overview[]
An Imperial soldier who has been enthralled by the Demonic Lance, which feeds on the lives on others to grow more powerful. He can strike repeatedly with moves that have unparalleled range to cut down opponents one-sidedly. Opponents' Guard Gauge depletion is increased while Awakened.
Character Traits[]
- Has many long-ranged moves.
- Has a move that splits into 4 move strings.
- Can attack repeatedly from a distance by using special cancel techniques.

The following are changes that Vanguard has received over the course of the game.
V1.09[]
- HP Gauge increased to 1100 from 1000.
- Guard Gauge increased to 1200 from 1050.
- Awakening Effect now has increased attack damage and chip damage as new effects.
- Crouching guard's hurtbox has been reduced.
- Standing B's recovery has been reduced, now being able to hit off-the-ground.
- Crouching B's recovery has been reduced.
- Cleave: Upper can now be jump-canceled.
- Brandish can now be followed-up with Inferno Charge, Crescent Slash, and Behead. This works even if the move whiffs against opponents.
- Inferno Charge's recovery has been reduced, with the start-up for projectile invulnerability being reduced.
- Behead's recovery has been reduced.
- Earthshatter's recovery has been reduced alongside the move's knockback range expanding upon the second hit, causing a wallbounce if close enough.
- Devastate has reduced recovery, with the upper body's hurtbox during the spinning move being removed. The move's last hit now has reduced start-up, expanded hitbox, can launch the opponent higher, and has increased blockstun & guardback.
- Lunge Strike's hitbox has been expanded.
- Doom Glaive's first hit has increased blockstun while the last hit's hitbox has been expanded. It can also now be dash-canceled upon hit.
